In the article Tobacco Industry Fights Anti-Smoking Tax Plan it talks about raising tax prices on cigarette's to help people quit smoking, expecially teenagers. Unfortuantly I am a smoker and live in a house full of smokers, who have been going through the increase of prices on cigarettes for many years. Although I do plan to quit smoking it's not due to the increasing cost; like many people, I want to elliminate nicotine from my system and quit smoking cigarettes for my health. Many American's smoke, and have been for years, raising the prices hasn't stoped them yet. I do believe it will help some people but not all people, because smokers will quit when they believe they want too, not because of the price of the ciggarette.

I like how you relate this article to your life. However, you need to provide more in your summary of the article. What is the tobacco industry doing in particular to fight this tax plan? What exactly is the tax plan? Who supports this plan?
ReplyDeleteWatch your spelling and punctuation. No apostrophe needed in the first use of the word cigarettes here. Cigarette's is possessive (e.g. the cigarette's filter fell off); you just need the plural here: cigarettes.
The same goes for American's in the second to last sentence.
I agree that raising the price on cigarettes is not the solution in keeping the highly addictive, drug nicotine out of the hands of youth. I believe that this plan, just as the plan of raising the age limit will fail. Just like any other drug it is a personal battle that one must except that smoking is not beneficial to their health and make the decision to quit. However if the tax plan does go into effect it is my thought that the money should go towards groups that will support the youth in their decision to eliminate nicotine from their lives.
